BJP Mahila Morcha, Shiv Sena protest against price hike

JAMMU, May 29: BJP Mahila Morcha staged a protest demonstration here today against rising prices. Led by Mahila Morcha State President Sakina Bano, the protestors were raising slogans against state and Central Government that has made the life of people difficult.
Holding pla-cards in their hands the protestors raised slogans against UPA Government and Prime Minister. They also put on display vegetable stall in Kachi Chawni chowk.
Addressing the protestors, Sakina Bano said that Government has failed on all fronts and no one is concerned about the plight of a common man who is feeling it difficult to make his livelihood. People in remote and far off areas too are suffering due to price hike and the younger generations are not able to cope up with the new standards due to high rise in price index.
Sakina Bano said Government should withdraw taxes on petroleum products like in other countries where petrol prices are less than Rs 50 per litre. But in India Government has no such policy due to which the common man has to suffer. She said with hike in the petroleum products entire price range varies as it effects every thing in transportation etc thus adding to the miseries of the people.
She asked the Government to role back hike otherwise people will take to streets.
Sakina Bano announced that Mahila Morcha will whole heartedly participate in NDA’s Bharat Bandh call on May 31 against price hike.
Purnima Sharma, Rajrani Jamwal, Priya Sethi, Pinky Gupta, were among other Morcha leaders who participated in the protest.
Another protest rally against price hike was taken jointly by the activists of Shiv Sena Bala Sahib Thackeray and Dogra Front under the leadership of Ashok Gupta from Parade Ground to City Chowk via Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi and Old Hospital road.
The protestors with vegetable sin their hands were raising slogans against the price hike and UPA Government. They appealed the people to observe a total bandh on May 31. Gupta said that bandh call is not given by any political party but the people of country and it should be made a success.
He said the UPA was befooling the people and another price hike is on cards but the UPA is waiting for Assembly elections in five States. In J&K over 41 percent people are living below poverty line and increasing prices have made their survival difficult.
Federation of Industries in a meeting here today discussed the situation created due to hike in petrol particularly in relation to industry sector. The members were highly critical of the hike and demanded its immediate roll back. They also demanded total abolition of VAT on petrol or significant reduction in the percentage of VAT being presently charged by State Government so that people in general get some relief.
