BJP MLC threatens to quit on poor health infrastructure in Jammu, dares Minister

JAMMU:  BJP MLC Ramesh Arora today threatened to quit from the chair on poor health infrastructure in Jammu district and dared his own minister on the Floor of the House of the Legislative Council here.

Responding to a written reply on a Question raised by the MLC on the number of machines and equipment, including platelets making machine worth crores of rupees being not operational in SMG Jammu hospital and SMHS Srinagar and CT Scan machine lying in CD Hospital Jammu being not functional for years, Health Minister Bali Bhagat said  the machine and equipment, including platelets making, is operational in the said hospitals.

However, the CT Scan machine installed in CD hoapital, Jammu is functional, he said, adding that a part of CT scan machine was not functional, for which the concerned firm was informed and the firm has replaced it.

Meanwhile, Mr Arora said the Minister is misleading the House and a survey can be conducted to find out the facts.

He asked the Chair to enquire about the existing health facilities on ground.

The MLC, however, threatened to quit from his post, if his allegations were not be proved.

Later speaking to reporters outside the House, Mr Arora claimed the CT Scan machines are non-functional to benefit the private players and in return, to get hefty commission.

He also blamed Minister for being careless towards the development of health infrastructure.

The MLC, whose son got admitted to GMC Jammu due to dengue last year, reportedly died after infusion of infected platelets, told the Minister not to make him emotional by expressing condolences, but be serious towards the health facilities.

The MLC’s son, after suffering from chronic infection, was referred to the hospital authorities outside the state, but he died during treatment. The Legislative Council Chairman has also constituted a committee to hold enquiry into the incident. (AGENCIES)
