JAMMU, Oct 24: Union Health Minister and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders must do some introspetion before leveling corruption charges against the Congress party and its leaders.
Talking to media-persons at the sidelines of Dussehra function at Parade Ground here today, the Union Minister said, “the BJP and its leaders are levelling charges of corruption against Congress party and its leaders for the last several months. The BJP national president Nitin Gadkari is facing serious charges now. The BJP leaders must go for self- introspection and peep into themselves before raising charges of corruption against the Congress party and its leaders”.
Mr Azad was responding to the question of media on serious charges raised against the BJP national president Mr Gadkari by the team members of India Against Corruption Arvind Kejriwal and others on October 17 at a press conference in Delhi. It was alleged by the IAC team that Gadkari received personal favours by getting around 100 acres of agriculture land in Maharashtra and duped a large number of farmers.
He justified the inquiry ordered by the Government to look into the allegations against BJP chief and maintained that truth should come out. He however, avoided to respond on yet another question on inquiry against Congress Ministers Virbhadara Singh and Law Minister Salman Khursheed and his wife’s trust for handicapped persons for embezzlement of funds.
When sought his comments on the behaviour of former Himachal Chief Minister and Union Minister Virbhadra Singh against media persons who asked some pointed questions on corruption charges, Mr Azad maintained that only Mr Virbhadra was right person to respond to this query.
Dy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that militancy caused major setback to the State’s development. He said during past two decades many innocent people lost lives but with the efforts of coalition Government things have improved a lot. He said good always prevails upon bad and State has almost come out of that phase with the active support from the Congress leadership at the Centre. While congratulating people on the occasion, the DyCM asked them to join hands with the Government in restoring permanent peace and ensure better development of the State.
Meanwhile, the Union Congress Minister after attending Dussehra function at Parade Ground Jammu, left for New Delhi in train late this evening.
