JAMMU, June 25: Terming June 26 as the darkest period in the history of Indian democracy, Jammu & Kashmir Unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will also observe the day as “Save Democracy Day” tomorrow.
This was informed in a press conference held at party Headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, near here, today by BJP State secretary, Sanjay Baru along with State Executive, Member Surinder Sharma and Subhash Gupta.
While addressing the press conference, Sanjay Baru said that the national general secretary of BJP, Dr. Anil Jain will reach Jammu to address a programme to be held at party office tomorrow, morning which will be presided over by former DyCM Kavinder Gupta to recall and denounce the dark days of emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
He said that the former PM made every effort to become a dictator using the official machinery, whilst the Government had miserably failed on all fronts due to its wrong policies. Dr. Anil Jain will highlight the setback suffered by Indian democracy due to the emergency imposed by Congress and the role of nationalistic groups especially by RSS leaders to repose the faith in democratic setup, he added.
Surinder Sharma, while elaborating threw light on the happenings and sufferings of the people after the imposition of “emergency”. He said that, as on the eventful midnight of 25th of June, the emergency was imposed by the then President of India, on the recommendations of the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi and every voice was silenced with force by the power that had been bestowed upon by the draconian order. He said that every opposition voice, every sane intellectual, every differing media voice was silenced and people were jailed and made to suffer as hundreds of persons were killed cold bloodedly out of which maximum remained unrecorded.
