No nomination filed in Poonch district

JAMMU, Aug 31: BJP candidate Kuldeep Raj Dubey and National Conference nominee Surinder Choudhary today joined the electoral fray from Reasi and Nowshera Assembly constituencies respectively for second phase of polling scheduled to be held on September 25.

Notification for second phase of elections was issued on August 29 and September 5 is last date for filing of nomination papers. Scrutiny will take place on September 6 while the candidates can withdraw their papers till September 9. Polling will be held on September 25.
In Reasi Assembly segment, BJP candidate Kuldeep Raj Dubey became the first candidate to file his nomination papers. He was joined by BJP MP from Jammu-Reasi seat Jugal Kishore Sharma and party’s candidate from neighbouring seat of Katra Baldev Raj Sharma. A large numbers of people accompanied him at the time of filing of papers.
The BJP workers also took out a procession in Reasi town before Dubey filed his niomination papers in the office of Returning Officer.
Reasi district has three Assembly seats—Shri Mata Vaishnodevi, Reasi and Gulabgarh. BJP leader Ajay Nanda won Reasi seat in 2014 while Aijaz Khan (then in Congress) and Mumtaz Khan emerged victorious from Gool-Arnas and Gulabgarh. Aijaz Khan has since joined Altaf Bukhari’s Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) while Mumtaz Khan returned to Congress today.
The Congress is yet to name its all three candidates for Reasi district.
In Nowshera Assembly segment of Rajouri district, NC’s Surinder Choudhary became the first candidate to file the papers.
Choudhary took out massive rally before filing his papers.
Nowshera seat was won by BJP UT chief Ravinder Raina in 2014. He had defeated Choudhary, then in PDP. Choudhary was later elected to the Legislative Council. This time, the BJP is yet to name its candidates for Nowshera and Rajouri constituencies though it has named its nominees for Sunderbani-Kalakote, Darhal and Thannamandi segments.
No nominations have so far been filed in three Assembly seats of Poonch district including Poonch Haveli, Surankote and Mendhar.
The BJP has announced candidates for all three seats and National Conference for two including Poonch and Mendhar. As per NC-Congress seat-sharing agreement, Surankote seat has gone to the Congress which too is yet to name its candidate.
A total of 11 seats of Jammu division will go to polls in second phase including five in Rajouri district and three each in Reasi and Poonch districts.
