JAMMU, May 4: Expressing concern over the death of farmers across the country, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Kisan Morcha today said it will hold two-day meet on farming issues in Delhi on May 12 and 13.
Addressing a press conference, Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, national secretary, BJP Kissan Morcha said that the Kissan Morcha of the party under its National President Om Prakash Dhankad will hold two-days “Kissan Sansad” in Delhi on May 12-13 to discuss the challenges being faced by the farming sector, marketing insecurities, poor disaster management and increasing prices”, told reporters here today.
Grewal mentioned that the Kissan Parliament had been necessitated because the Government had turned a deaf ear to their demand of convening a special session for discussing the farmers’ issue.
He added that BJP National President Nitin Gadkari, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, BJP-ruled States Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers and former Chairman of the Farmers Commission M S Swaminathan and journalist P Sainath have been invited.
“In every 30 minutes, one farmer commits suicide in India and it is due to the anti-farmer policies of Congress led UPA Government at the center”, he added.
“A farmer is very demoralised man today with rising input costs and hardly any returns”, Grewal said.
