Jammu, Nov 19: A function to commemorate the 187th birth anniversary of Maharani Lakshmi Bhai, (Jhansi Ki Rani), the great heroin of 1857 independence struggle launched against the British Empire, was organized in the Central BJP office, Kachi-Chawni here by the BJP State Freedom Fighters & Martyrs’ cell with the cooperation of Mahila Morcha today.
The function was presided over by BJP State Vice President & MLA Sat Pal Sharma. Apart from Sat Pal Sharma, those who spoke in the function to throw the light on the life of Maharani Lakshmi Bhai included Ashok Kaul, BJP State General Secretary (organization), Cabinet Minister for Health & Medical Education, Chaudhary Lal Singh, Mahila Morcha President, Purnima Sharma, State spokesperson, Prof. Virender Gupta, BJP State Secretary, Mamta Singh.
The speakers appreciated the role of Maharani Jhansi during the 1857 independence struggle of not bowing before the cunning British General, Lord Dahlousi and she rejected his offer of annual pension of Rs 60000 at the cost of Jhansi and told in clear terms that she will not leave Jhansi.
The speakers also applauded her unparallel courage and conviction in organizing the army, which included the women folk and fought with British army as a warrior and ultimately laid down her life for the Jhansi and for the country. They said that she cooperated with Nanaji Peshva and Tantya Tope in her fight against the British empire in freedom struggle to liberate the mother India.
Prominent among those present in the function included Ramesh Arora, Rajni Sethi, Balbir Ram Rattan, Sheela Handoo, Ashok Mishra, Karan Sat Sharma, Ayodhya Gupta, Ajay Vaid, Keshav Chopra, Amrik Singh, Anuradha Charak, Sanjita Dogra, Soni, Rekha Mahajan, Updesh Andotra, Sonia and Sushma Gupta.
At the end of the function Surjeet Kumar Gupta, freedom fighter who participated in Satyagrah for the liberation of Goa and faced the tyranny of the Portuguese Government, was honoured by AshoK Kaul, Sat Sharma and other leaders present in the function.
Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Convenor of the BJP State Freedom Fighters and Martyrs Cell presented vote of thanks.
