JAMMU, Apr 6: While questioning the basis of PDP and BJP’s ‘unholy’ and ‘opportunist’ alliance for the sake of power, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief, Ghulam Ahmed Mir today described the BJP and PDP as power hungry parties.
Addressing a rally of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) here at Shaheedi Chowk, Mir described the present alliance as a combination of opportunist and power hungry forces which exploited the sentiments of the people on contradictory and opposite agendas.
The people are now questioning the basis of their present alliance in the back drop of their (BJP and PDP) slogans during election campaign, as both the parties have betrayed their respective electorate.
The PCC Chief reminded that BJP sought votes to keep PDP (Baap-Beti) away from power and exploited the people of Jammu on various slogans of abrogation of Article 370, rights to PoK and West Pakistan refugees, delimitation of constituencies, plots to the border residents besides promising Chief Minister from the region.
He said that the Congress led UPA Government had sanctioned two Central Universities one each for Kashmir and Jammu keeping in view the peculiar situation of the State, why the present Government cannot provide an AIIMS at Jammu also.
Addressing the rally, senior vice president, PCC, Sham Lal Sharma exposed the BJP’s failure to respect the mandate and bartering the interests of the electorate of Jammu in every respect. He said that BJP surrendered its entire ideological stand and other promises to share power and has deceived the electorate.
The rally was also addressed by CLP leader Nawang Rigzin Jora, vice president Raman Bhalla and other senior leaders of the party.
The rally was organized to celebrate the elevation of Pranav Shagotra as president of State Youth Congress following induction of earlier PYC president Mohammad Shahnawaz Choudhary as general secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, new president of State Youth Congress, Pranav Shagotra, expressed gratitude to the Congress high command and IYC president for providing him opportunity and assured the PCC leadership to strengthen the organisation at all levels.
The rally started from exhibition ground near Press Club and passed through main bazaars of Hari Market, Raghunath Mandir Chowk and Residency Road before culminating at PCC Headquarters Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu.
Prominent among other Congress leaders present on the occasion were Mula Ram, Mohammad Anwar Bhat, Kanta Bhan, Yogesh Sawhney, Balwan Singh, Manjit Singh, Thakur Manmohan Singh, Namrata Sharma and Shahnawaz Choudhary.
