BJP, PDP enter into alliance for Leh polls

JAMMU, Sept 19: The BJP and PDP which are the coalition partners in the State Government have formed an alliance for the ensuing Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh elections also which will be held on October 17.
This was announced by BJP vice president, Sat Sharma (CA) who is also election incharge of LAHDC, Leh while releasing the list of 16 candidates of the Party today. Mr Sharma said 20 seats out of 26 seats were finalized today and out of them four have been left for alliance partner PDP.
He said the remaining six seats will also be declared soon as the survey process for the same is on. The BJP will field its own candidates on these six seats also, he added.
Out of 16 candidates, BJP nominated Tashi Namgyal (Yakzee) from 6, Tangtse Constituency while Konchok Stanzin, Dorjey Mutup, Gayal P Wangyal, Tsering Paldan, Dr Sonam Dawa and  Mumtaz Hussian were nominated for 7, Chushul, 9, Khungyam, 11, Sakti, 12 Igoo, 14 Thiksay and 15 Chushot constituencies respectively.
Among other candidates nominated by BJP are Ven. Lobzang Nyantak, Doreje Angchok, Sonam Norbu, Sonam Morup, Tsering Wangdus, Tsering Murup, Lobzang Sherab, Punchok Stanzin and Tsewang Ganbo (Domkhar) were nominated from 16 Upper Leh, 17, Lower Leh, 19, Skyue -Markha, 20, Basgo, 21, Saspol, 22, Temisgam, 23, Khalsi, 24, Skurbuchan and 25 Lamayuru constituencies respectively.
Sat Sharma said his party will ensure that PDP and BJP gain majority in the LAHDC, Leh.
This is the fifth election for LAHDC Leh since its constitution in 1995. Till date Congress has got majority three times while for one term Ladakh Union Territory Front (LUTF) had won the elections. This is for the first time when BJP along with its alliance partner is eying the LAHDC, Leh to gain control over it by winning the majority of the seats.
The filing of nomination papers will start from September 22 and last date will be September 29. The scrutiny of the papers will be held on September 30 and October 2 will be the last date for withdrawal of forms.
The elections will be held on October 17 and counting on October 21.
