JAMMU, Mar 7: In keeping with the spirit of alliance Government, BJP State convenor of Ex-Servicemen Cell Brig. Anil Gupta and State President of PDP Ex-Servicemen Wing Capt. Anil Gaur called on Minister of Finance Haseeb Drabu at Civil Secretariat today and presented a memorandum to him.
The memorandum demanded exemption of VAT on goods sold through the CSD Canteens. The memorandum said that Jammu & Kashmir has approximate population of five lakh ex-servicemen and large number of serving soldiers and their families who are dependent on the CSD canteens for items of their daily necessities. While their counterparts in the neighbouring states of HP and Punjab enjoy the facilities of cheap goods through the CSD canteens, they feel aggrieved due to denial of the same in J&K.
The Finance Minister appreciated the problem being faced by the veterans as well as service soldiers due to levy of VAT on CSD goods. He assured that the BJP-PDP alliance is committed to the welfare of ex-servicemen and he would definitely take measures to address this long pending demand of the veterans.
