JAMMU, Aug 30: Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla has  alleged that Central as well as Coalition Govt in the State, have failed to come up to the expectations of the people.
“Both the Governments have miserably failed to provide any relief to the common people and to fulfill  the promises they had made during the election campaign two and half years back,” Bhalla said  while interacting with the senior citizens at Trikuta Nagar  here today.
On this occasion, senior citizens recalled and appreciated the development works executed during Bhalla’s tenure as minister and regretted that new dispensation has miserably failed to take care of public issues which are mounting with every passing day. During the meeting, senior citizens highlighted several issues before the former minister like water scarcity, unscheduled power cuts, ration shortage, worst condition of roads, lanes and drains.
Bhalla further said that Government is shying away from its duty to conduct urban local body and Panchayat elections. Form-ation of ULBs are must to empower the people of urban areas”, he said and added that in a democratic system,  it was necessary to make representative character of all democratic institutions to ensure people’s participation in these institutions. He said that the Centre has blocked grants worth crores for Urban Development because the State Government has failed to constitute duly elected local bodies.
Accusing BJP-PDP  of having failed to address the problems of the people, Bhalla said since they (BJP-PDP) joined hands, the miseries of the people of the State  have increased manifold. While the BJP cheated people of Jammu, the people of Kashmir were duped by the PDP.  More than two years have passed, but they have failed to fulfill any of the promises.  He attacked the BJP, accusing it of betrayal, vitiating the atmosphere and pushing Jammu region into development inertia.
