JAMMU, Jan 27: Various political parties including BJP, PDP, Cong and National Conference celebrated Republic Day in different functions organised across the State on Tuesday.
On the occasion of 67th Republic Day, Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta unfurled the National flag at Shahidi Smarak of 1965 war memorial, New Dashmesh Nagar, Digiana in Jammu today.
While speaking on the occasion, the Speaker recalled the sacrifices of the soldiers and great leaders who fought for achieving freedom. He called for safeguarding sovereignty and integrity of the nation and urged upon the people to maintain peace, harmony and brotherhood.
In connection with the 67th Republic Day, BJP organized a function at party headquarters, Kachi Chawani where National flag was hoisted by the State president of the party. Sweets were also distributed amid exchange of greetings by the BJP leaders and activists.
BJP State president and MLA West Sat Shama, alongwith leader of Legislative Party Dr Nirmal Singh, MPs-Jugal Kishore Sharma and Shamsher Singh Manhas, State General Secretary (Org) Ashok Kaul, MLCs -Ashok Khajuria, Charanjit Singh Khalsa, and Ramesh Arora, MLAs Priya Sethi and Rajesh Gupta and senior leaders, hoisted the tri-colour at Kachi Chawni headquarter of the party.
Sat Sharma, while extending greetings to the people said, “We have travelled a long from the day we got our own constitution and during all these years the democracy has further strengthened.”
He appealed that every citizen should get united to defeat the threats posed to the unity and integrity of the country by the anti- national elements.
Dr Nirmal Singh said that on this day in 1950 India adopted Constitution drafted under the chairmanship of Dr BR Ambedkar. “India needed a policy to run its governance and our constitution gave us the guidelines and regulations for the same”, Dr Singh said and added that we also need to remember and salute the brave Indian soldiers, civilians and martyrs, who laid down their lives to make the dream of having own Government come true.
Amarnath Gupta, Col Uttam Singh, Bansi Lal Bharti, Suresh Jamwal, Shiv Kumar Gupta, Sakina Bano, Usha Choudhary, Sunil Sethi, Daljit Singh, Munish Sharma, Chander Mohan Gupta, Yudhvir Sethi, Mamta Singh, Gulam Ali Khatana, Balbir Ram, Naresh Dogra, Rachhpal Singh, Purnima Sharma, Sheela Handoo, Surinder Bhagat, S.S. Bijral, Moti Koul, Rajeev Charak, Baldev Singh Ballawria, Vinay Gupta, Vikram Randhawa, Subash Jandial and Rekha Mahajan also attended the function.
Senior BJP leaders Priya Sethi and Yudhvir Sethi also hoisted national flag at City Chowk, Khilone Wali Gali, Shahidi Chowk and other places in Jammu city.
Meanwhile, MLA Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta along with his party workers celebrated Republic Day in his constituency and unfurled tri-colour at City Chowk. Sweets were also distributed among the people. Mr Gupta greeted the people on this occasion. He also unfurled national flag at Pacca Danga, Bus Stand, Raj Tilak Road, and Kachi Chawani.
MLA Kathua from BJP, Rajiv Jasrotia unfurled national flag at Budhi and Kharote besides several other places in Kathua town on the occasion of Republic Day. Mr Jasrotia, who is state general secretary of BJP also addressed the gatherings and greeted the people on this occasion. Several Sarpanchs and other Panchayat members were present on the occasion.
Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Udhampur District unit celebrated Republic Day with great pomp and show. A colorful function was held at Talab Sailin Bus Stand under the president ship of Rakesh Gupta District Unit president of BJP.
Former BJP State secretary and BJP contested candidate from Udhampur Assembly constituency Pawan Khajuria was present as the chief guest in the function. A large number of BJP activists along with youths and women were also present in the function. Veteran BJP leader Sat Pal Sallen unfurled National flag. While addressing a large gathering Pawan Khajuria greeted people on Republic Day.
Somraj Khajuria, Krishan Lal, Arun Gupta, Deepak Verma, Subhash Gupta, Mohan Lal Drahi, Vijay, Mushtaq, Romesh Chander, Chuni Lal Dogra, Kartar Singh, Veer Singh, Vikas Bharat and Bharti Sharma among others were present on the occasion.
Former Minister of Finance and Information Technology Pawan Gupta hoisted National flag at Lal Chowk Udhampur. A large number of political activists and workers were present. While greeting the people on the eve of Republic Day, Pawan Gupta who is also MLA Udhampur expressed that India can shine with unity and we have to inculcate the values of patriotism, dedication, devotion and discipline among the youth.
The prominent among others were present in the meeting includes Raj Kumar Bucha, Sumer Khajuria, Anil Arora, Navneet Gupta, Raj Guru, Ex- Councilor Municipal Council Udhampur Jugal Kishore, Ex- Councilor Municipal Council Udhampur Vijay Sharma, Ashok Baria, Nisha Mahajan, Ashok Moti, Manju Gupta, Ashok Jagotra, Neelam Jogi, Jatinder Gupta, Sarpanch Lal Din, Sarpanch Sardar Gurbaksh Singh and Sarpanch Lal Chand Bhagat.
BJP MLC Vibodh Gupta today unfurled the tricolour at Government Higher Secondary School Dangri on the occasion of 67th Republic day. After flag hoisting ceremony, Vibodh Gupta also witnessed Parade and colourful cultural programme as chief guest. About 2000 students drawn from various educational institutions of the area participated in the programme to mark the celebration of Republic day.
MLA RS Pura, Dr Gagan Bhagat from BJP unfurled national flag during Republic Day function at Daljeet Chowk R S Pura town. He also attended the official function at Bana Singh Stadium where SDM R S Pura, SDPO, Tehsildar and several other officials were also present.
People’s Democratic Party(PDP) Jammu celebrated the 67th Republic Day and hoisted national flag at party office, Gandhi Nagar. General Secretary Ved Mahajan hoisted tricolor in presence of Senior leaders and party workers and extended his greetings to the people of Nation on 67th Republic Day.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion Mahajan called upon the people to preserve the hard fought freedom and expressed that this freedom is earned by shedding blood and it is the duty of every citizen to play their individualistic role for the welfare of society and country. Every person of the society men, women, children and youth participated with zeal and enthusiasm.

District PDP unit Leh today hoisted National flag at party office on the occasion of 67th Republic Day celebration in the presence of District president. Tashi Gyalson, Senior leaders including Ghulam Chatapa Ex- Councilor, Tsewang Dorjey vice president, Stanzin Jordan Shunu spokesperson, Tsewang Thinlay Tubak joint secretary and other senior party leaders and workers extended their best wishes to the people of Leh on the occasion of Republic Day.
Provincial president National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Tuesday stressed need for preserving and promoting secular ethos, saying unity in diversity is the biggest strength of the nation.
Unfurling tricolour on 67th Republic Day at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this morning, Mr Rana exhorted people to maintain harmony and strive for peace and unity.
Mr Rana greeted the people on this auspicious occasion and hoped that they will work for strengthening the bonds of amity and tranquility-the hallmark of Jammu and Kashmir glorious pluralistic ethos.

Pradesh Congress celebrated Republic Day in all its district and block headquarters today. The main function was held at PCC headquarters Jammu where Anil Chopra, District Congress Committee Jammu(Urban) president hoisted national flag in the presence of functionaries of PCC, DCC, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal, INTUC, NSUI and the people from all sections of society.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Chopra recalled the sacrifices of its great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, Neta ji Subash Chander Bose, Shaheed Azam Bhagat Singh, Sardar Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Lal Bahadur Shastri and many other freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to liberate India from foreign rulers and guide modern India towards its substantive progress. He also recalled the leaders like Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi who sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the country.
Prominent among those who attended included Kanta Bhan, BB Gupta, Dr Rama Kant Khajuria, Mian Nazir, Madan Lal Malagar, Ch Sukh Dev, Gourav Chopra, Mansa Ram, Mohinder Panotra, Vicky Mahajan, Chanchal Popli, JL Koul, Pawan Dev Singh, Gulzar Singh, Pawan Sharma, Joginder Singh, Vijay Sharma and Anand Gandotra.
Mr Chopra also hoisted National flag at Bakshi Nagar in presence of large number of prominent citizen of Bakshi Nagar including women and children.
At Udhampur, Ashok Gupta, president District Congress Committee hoisted national flag at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in presence of local Congress leaders Vijay Manhas, Surinder Khajuria, Mohan Lal Prassar, Ravi Shastri, Jagdish Prakash, Lal Singh, Mohd Yussaf, Dwarka Prakash, Manav Opadhya and Kartar Singh.
At Rajouri Ch Sain Abdul Rashid- president District Congress Committee Rajouri hoisted nation flag at Gujjar Mandi Chowk in presence of large number of people of all walks of life. Sweets were also distributed on the occasion.
Indian National Trade Union Congress J&K unit led by state president Shiv Kumar Sharma organised a function at Company Bagh where AEE PHE D S Choudhary unfurled the National flag. The INTUC president greeted the PHE workers on the occasion and urged upon the Government to address the pending issues of the workers.
Udhampur unit of the INTUC led by Som Nath celebrated Republic Day Barrian PHE Station. SE Hyd Circle Udhampur A K Gupta unfurled the national flag.
On the auspicious occasion of Republic Day, Vikram Malhotra, PCC general secretary unfurled the National flag at various places in Jammu city and extended good wishes to the people.
Mr Malhotra hoisted the Tri-colour in the presence of people at Vikram Chowk in Ward No. 19 of Jammu city. National Anthem was sung and sweets were distributed among the present gathering. Raj Kumar Mehra, Deepak Mehra, Sunny Mehra, Lalita Sharma Ex-Corporator, Vipan Sharma, Ashok Kumar and Sunil Kumar were also present.
On the occasion Republic Day, Deputy Chairman J&K Legislative Council, Jahangir Hussain Mir hoisted tricolor at an impressive function held at Meelaad Chowk near Pritam Park in Poonch.
While addressing the gathering after hoisting tricolor, the Deputy Chairman paid rich tribute to the freedom fighters and all other respectable personalities who sacrificed their lives, wealth and time for freedom of the nation. He asserted that on such national occasions we should remember their sacrifices and pay our homage. He further said that by following their footsteps we can make our nation prosperous, developed and secured.
Prominent among those present on the occasion include Rajinder Singh, Gurdev Singh, Molvi Munir Hussain Jafri, Molvi Mohd Sharif Nomani, Sakina Begum, Janak Singh, Sher Khan, Syed Amir Shah, Jahangir Hussain and Abdul Hameed.
District Congress Committee Kathua celebrated Republic Day with enthusiasm. DCC president and former MLC Subash Gupta graced the occasion as chief guest and hoisted the tri-color. Mr Gupta congratulated the people on this occasion.
Naresh Sharma, Pankaj Dogra, Nirdosh Sharma, Aradhana Andotra, Kulbir Singh Pathania, Yugal Kishore Bali,Sohan Lal president BCC Kathua, SP Chandel, Mohinder Singh, Sardar Khan, Karan Bhagat, Tarsem Lal, Pawan Sharma, Ravinderpal Singh, Pushpa Majotra, Pankaj Sharma, AR Dogra and Som Dutt were also present on the occasion.
Celebrating the 67th Republic Day, the PCC held a function at party office Srinagar where senior party leaders hoisted the national flag. The party leaders greeted each other and distributed sweets.
The function was attended by several senior party leaders and office bearers including DCC Srinagar president Abdul Gani Khan, Gulam Nabi Mir, Mohd Hussain Wada and others.
BCC Bishnah led by Shashi Sharma celebrated Republic Day at party office. Mr Sharma hoisted the national flag in presence of BCC functionaries. National Anthem was also sung by the party workers.
Senior Congress leader Maheshwar Singh unfurled the national flag at Paloura in Jammu to mark the Republic Day. Several party workers were present on the occasion. They paid their rich tributes to the leaders who laid down their life for the freedom of the country.
Congress Committee from Ward No. 37 celebrated Republic Day. Tri-colour was unfurled by Veteran Cong leader Satnam Singh. Several party workers and residents of the area were present on the occasion.
NPP zonal president Neeraj Gupta hoisted national flag at function held at Janipur. Several party workers besides local leaders Rakesh Gupta and Naveen Bali also witnessed the occasion.
Shiv Sena state unit leader Dimpy Kohli unfurled national flag at party headquarters Indira Chowk while Janata Dal Secular state unit headed by Mast Nath Yogi hoisted tri-colour at party office Raghunath Bazar to mark Republic Day.
