BJP-PDP set aside poll agenda for sake of power: Mir

JAMMU, Mar 17: Pradesh Congress Committee president Ghulam Ahmed Mir today said that both BJP and PDP have set aside their poll commitments for the sake of power only.
Addressing party leaders and workers at the launch of `Drishtikon’ campaign of Congress Party at PCC headquarters here today, Mr Mir lashed out at PDP and BJP and described this coalition as a combination of opportunism for the sake of power only. He said that present coalition suffers from inherent contradictions on the basic ideologies and issues and both the parties have put their respective poll commitments aside for the sake of power and betrayed their electorate.
The PCC chief expressed gratitude to the Congress high command for his appointment and to the Senior leaders and cadre of the party for their whole hearted support and cooperation. He asked the party workers to gear up their activities in order to strengthen the party and play the role of a responsible and vibrant opposition as assigned to the party by the people.
The day long meeting of the PCC executive body was also attended by Sanjay Kapoor (MLA), as AICC observer in the session. Nawang Rigzin Jora- CLP leader besides other legislators and senior leaders of the party including former MPs, former Ministers, Legislators, District president and heads of Frontal Organizations from all over the State were among those who attended the meet.
The session had a threadbare deliberations on the strategy of the Congress party for gearing up the party cadres in all parts of the State in order to play the role of an effective and vibrant political force. The party would foster an atmosphere of peace and brotherhood and fight against the communal and divisive forces who are threat to the unity, integrity and secular fabric of the State and the Nation.
In the resolutions adopted on the occasion, the committee discussed the latest political situation in the State and the role and responsibility of the Congress party in the given situation. The party resolved to highlight the issues of public importance and urges and aspirations of all three regions and different sections of the society. The resolution out-lined the approach of the Congress party to play the role of a vibrant and responsible opposition and highlight the issues confronting the people in order to seek equitable and balanced development of three regions and equal share in every sphere of life.
