BJP pushes panic button in Varanasi, Parliamentary constituency of PM

VARANASI : Panic-stricken union ministers are heading towards Varanasi- the Parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi- as losing in this temple town would mean loss of face for the party.
In this desperation, the party has pressed panic button because the arithmetic advantage of Congress-SP alliance has given jitters to the BJP. Varanasi and its adjoining areas would go to polls in the seventh and last phase on March 8 where campaigning would end on March 6 evening.
The Prime Minister himself is expected to stay for a night in his constituency to campaign and to build a strong wave in his favour. Prime Minister is expected to reach Varanasi on the evening of March 4 and then will address an election meeting on the next day.
Earlier, the Prime Minister was slated to hold a roadshow in the temple city but it was postponed and now, Mr Modi will hold an election meeting instead.
Meanwhile, BJP national president Amit Shah is camping in Amethi House while senior ministers are sweating it out in different ‘nukkad sabhas’.
Chances are one might get bumped into one of these ministers namely JP Nadda, Santosh Gangwar, Ravishanker Prasad, Manoj Sinha, Smriti Irani, Narendra Singh Tomar, Kalraj Mishra, Anant Kumar, Mahendra Pandey and Anupriya Patel if one moves around the city. Besides power minister Piyush Goyal frequents this city.
Dr Kausahl Kishore Mishra, Head, political science at Beneras Hindu University says: “Modi ji’s prestige is at stake. BJP might get a majority in entire state but if it does not win this region, it will be treated as Mr Modi’s loss as UP is voting for Modi not BJP.” (AGENCIES)
