UDHAMPUR, Jan 9: JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla accompanied by senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh, Sewadal chief Vijay Sharma Babbi today convened Bharat Jodo Yatra preparatory meeting at Udhampur, organised by Ex- MLA Krishan Chand Bhagat and Sumit Mangotra.
Raman Bhalla speaking on the occasion said that Yatra is a game changer, not for the Congress party, not for Rahul Gandhi but for the people of this country. He said Yatra is decisively raising a bugle against the rampant unemployment in India. This is also a yatra against the massive price hike which has broken the back of common people. This is also a yatra to fight hate and division.
“Govt is scared of the response of Bharat Jodo Yatra getting. It has actually become a Jan Andolan, it’s a people’s movement. It’s no longer a Congress Party movement. Yes, there are a lot of Congress people but it’s a people’s movement. People from all shades, people who used to criticise us, people who were bitterly opposed to us, they all have joined hands for the sake of the nation. And that’s why the BJP is running helter-skelter and is scared,” added Bhalla.
Bhalla further said that Yatra has attracted thousands across age groups, castes, religions and economic strata, has generated curiosity and hope in civil society and prompted some to shed their negative opinion about Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that the BJP has pushed the Jammu and Kashmir into unprecedented political uncertainty by failing to maintain law and order and indulging in politics of hate.
Ex-MLA Krishan Chand Bhagat appealed to the people of J&K to reject the pro-rich and anti-youth BJP for peace and prosperity in the region. He slammed the BJP government for using public money for polishing their own image through massive advertisement. The fact is that the BJP government has failed to deliver to the people on all fronts and would be wiped out of J&K whenever assembly elections take place here.
Manmohan Singh appealed gathering to give a strong signal to the centre that people are annoyed with the BJP’s actions and failure of their leaders who were elected by the people with great expectations. He said that only Congress can fight the arbitrary style of functioning of the BJP government.
Prominent among those present on the occasion include Ashok Gupta, Shakeel Shah, Ashok Bakshi, Surinder Khajuria, Manav Uppadya, Pravej Shah, Latish Sharma, Dawarka Prakash, Om Parkash and others.
