BJP seeks ouster of ‘corrupt’ UPA

SHIMLA, May 4: The opposition BJP in Himachal Pradesh today demanded ouster of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule at the Centre, saying it is neck deep in rampant corruption and making the life of people miserable.

The BJP protest targeted UPA for alleged involvement in rampant corruption as big scams like Coalgate and 2G spectrum scam were unearthed in its nine-year-rule and also for misusing premier investigation agency CBI for political gain, failure of government to check incursion by Chinese forces inside Indian borders and brutal killing of Sarabjit by Pakistan.

Similar protest was held in the other states seeking ouster of UPA in the wake of a nationwide call given by the party.

Party activists lodged protest before Raj Bhavan here this afternoon attended by State BJP president Satpal Singh Sati, Rajya Sabha Member Balbir Punj and former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal alongwith other galaxy of party leaders who submitted an MoU addressed to President Pranab Mukherjee. The memo was handed over to Himachal Pradesh Governor Urmila Singh.

Mr Dhumal said Coalgate scam speak of enormity of corruption during the Congress rule depriving public sectors from the vital coal resources and giving free hand to big industrial houses to exploit the national assets pointed out by CAG involving loss of Rs 1.86 lakh crores.

He slammed the UPA for creating instability in the country by  adopting wrong economic polices resulting in escalating prices and

promoting the corrupt and tainted people who have been given free reign to loot public resource.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was apprised atleast eight times by the previous BJP government to strengthen the rail and road network along the Indo-Sino border but every time it was ignored resulting in incursion by China now.

Mr Dhumal said, “It was negligence on the part of the Centre  as it could not ensure timely release of Sarabjit who was brutally killed in a Pakistani Jail and his mutilated body with vital organs missing handed over speaks  volumes about how the people feel unsecure under this regime.”

Mr Sati said the government had lost the mandate to continue to rule and it should step down as it could not handle day to day affairs effectively.

The loss of credibility of the government had given way to desperation. Moreover, it had failed on the foreign policy front too with the country having to bear a heavy cost of its misrule, the BJP leader commented.
