Srinagar, Jan 28: With an aim to strengthen the party’s foothold across Kashmir valley, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today kick-started its membership drive to attract new members into the party fold.
The party is aiming to add at least three lakh new members into the party fold in coming months across the Kashmir valley.
The membership drive was officially kick started here in a function in which all the party’s senior workers, district heads and candidates fielded in recently held elections in different constituencies across Kashmir valley were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Manesh Sharma, BJP State secretary and incharge of the membership drive for Jammu and Kashmir, told reporters that the party wanted to start the membership drive earlier but because of the floods, followed by State Assembly elections, it got delayed.
Sharma added that the aim was to reach every household in the Kashmir valley. “The membership drive would continue till March 31, and we hope to connect at least two members from each family in the party,” he said, adding, the initiative was taken across the country to make the BJP one of the largest cadre based party in the world.
He also said that the party had already added 65,000 new members in the State before this proper membership drive was launched.
Elaborating on the mechanics of the membership drive, Sharma said that BJP has established a Toll Free No. 18002662020, which on dialing would automatically seek information from the caller and register him as a member of the party without incurring any expenditure.
He also said that every party worker shall have to go in the public and get at least 100 members registered and only then will he qualify for any post in the party.
