JAMMU, Aug 25: BJP today criticized the leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, for accusing the Centre for failure of NSA Talks.
The State spokesperson the party, Arun Gupta said, “Congress has been desperate to find some ground to stand on for a long time now and Ghulam Nabi Azad’s statement on NSA talks is representative of how Congress will not stop at politicising any issue, weather it is of National interest or not. Azad is an old politician, should not be careless in forgetting details, he added.”
Recalling the bilateral meeting between Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif at Ufa, the BJP spokesperson said, “Azad has selectively chosen to forget the most significant detail from the SCO Summit in Ufa. Kashmir was never a topic of discussion at the Summit and this was the basis of peace talks between both the nations’’, he added.
Further pointing out the error in Azad’s statements, Mr Gupta said, “the BJP called off the talks because Pakistan cleared their intent for not having a meeting at all. Pakistan had simply envisioned that as soon as a Hurriyat meeting was setup, India would call off the talks and to their surprise that did not happen.
Pakistan was simply in a bind because the BJP arrested the Hurriyat leaders and still wanted to hold bilateral talks,” he added.
Lashing out at Azad, the BJP spokesperson, said “It is easy for Azad to conjure up misleading statements which in his position is not a responsible thing to do.”
The BJP is clear in its focus to work towards ending terrorism and any deviation from that is sheer wastage of time. This message was sent across very loud and clear to Pakistan, he said.”
“Maybe the Congress needs more time to gauge that information,” Gupta quipped and added that Nation first should always be the core of any Political party, irrespective of local Ideological differences.
