Govt urged to take lenient view on package employees

SRINAGAR, Oct 27: The BJP team led by former Deputy CM and senior party leader, Dr Nirmal Singh which was recently constituted to look into the problems of PM package employees, reserved category employees and minorities living in Valley who were subjected to target killings by militants today visited various areas of Kashmir Valley to ascertain the situation there.
The team held a detailed meeting with Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, P K Pole in the evening at Srinagar.
The team discussed all issues pertaining to package employees, other minorities and members of Kashmiri Pandit community who are still putting up in Valley including their security concerns.
Dr Nirmal Singh and other members of the team including former MLC Ajay Bharti, BJP senior leader, H L Bhat and Kashmir Displaced District president, Chand Ji Bhat stressed that fool proof security arrangements be made for these people to act as deterrent against the targeted killings.
The issue of release of salaries of package employees was stressed and Divisional Commissioner was informed that most of the Departments have kept the salaries of package employees withheld and were harassing them unnecessarily. It demanded that the Government should take a lenient view in this regard in view of the prevailing threat perception.
It also demanded that work on construction of quarters be intensified and in this regard the Divisional Commissioner said that some of the accommodations will be ready by this year. The team also demanded that Estate Department quarters at Pampore and other places be allotted to package employees residing in rented accommodations. The Divisional Commissioner agreed with the demand and asked the RRC to workout it and take up the issue with concerned department officers.
The BJP team also urged the Pole that the administration should not force the package employees to biometric attendance in view of militants’ threat.
The BJP leaders also showed concern over hiring of a rented accommodation by Finance Department at Danter village in Anantnag district for the package employees and Divisional Commissioner took up the issue on spot with concerned officers and asked them to hire the building in Anantnag town for these employees instead of Danter.
The team also demanded that the employment avenues be created for the left over Pandits in Valley who have become the target of militants and Divisional Commissioner assured that they will be provided jobs through cooperative and NABARD schemes.
Earlier they held meetings with District Development Commissioner, Shopian and SSP Shopian besides Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, K K Sidha.
Sidha also accompanied the team to Aalwpura Migrant Colony in Shopian district which is under construction at present. The RRC gave detailed information to the team about the construction work. However, the team expressed concern that the colony has been constructed in a secluded and interior area which can further add to the security concerns. It demanded that instead of ORT the TRTs be constructed in the area with better faculties.
The BJP team also visited Vessu migrant colony in Kulgam district and interacted with the inmates there too and listened their problems. It assured them that they will take up their all issues with concerned authorities for the settlement to the best satisfaction of package employees.
The team later visited Hawal migrant camp in Pulwama district where the employees showed their full faith in the district administration especially steps taken by them for their security. However the team said that the fear psychosis still prevail in the employees of the camp.
The team had also intended to visit the Choudhrygund village in Shopian where recently a member of minority Pandit community was killed however the district administration advised them not to visit the area.
