SRINAGAR, Sept 14: The senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Ashok Khajuria, today joined the Congress party in criticizing the State Government for its failure to empower Panchayats in the State and announced to raise the issue in the forthcoming assembly session.
Khajuria while addressing press conference here said that his party would raise the issue of non-implementation of 73rd and 74th Amendments in the coming Legislative Assembly session. He said that Government is forcing the mass resignation of Panchs and Sarpanchs in the State as they have not empowered them so far.
The BJP leader also opposed the holding of Block Development Council and Urban Local Bodies elections in the State later this year. He said that unless 73rd and 74th Amendments of Indian Constitution are implemented in the State Panchayat Raj Act these elections should not be held.
The BJP leader said that the State Government does not want a transparent and accountable system. “They want to continue with the present administrative system, which is full of corrupt Officers and Ministers,” he alleged.
The BJP leader said that that the recent amendments in Right to Information (RTI) Act, were made intentionally by State Government to shield their administrative failures.
Khajuria said that his party will also raise the RTI Act amendment issue in the forthcoming Assembly session to pressurize Government to revoke the order.
