JAMMU, Mar 6: Toughening its stand against the fresh registration of migrants from Valley, BJP today decided to oppose the decision tooth and nail.
The decision was taken at a high level meeting of the Party held here today under the leadership of Party State chief, Sat Sharma. It was attended by Ministers from BJP, vice chairpersons of various Boards and senior office bearers and legislators.
According to Party sources in the meeting, grave concern was voiced over the fresh registration of migrants in Jammu and partymen were unanimous that the decision was against the policy of the party which is for the honourable and dignified rehabilitation of displaced people back in Kashmir valley.
The meeting decided that the BJP will, at no cost allow the fresh registration of migrants as it will create flood gates for fresh migration from Kashmir Valley, sources said, adding the concern will also be conveyed to Government in this regard.
The meeting said that on one hand BJP has reiterated its resolve on rehabilitation of displaced people in Valley and a process has already been initiated in this regard and on the other hand how can it be a party to fresh registration of migrants.
Sources said the issue of non supply ration was also raised in the meeting and the Party viewed it seriously as people are facing many hardships owing to the problem. Some partymen were highly critical of the role of officers of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department (FCS&CAD) saying that they were hoodwinking the Government as well as party leadership over the issue, sources added.
Taking a serious view of the role of the officers of the Department, the BJP leaders said that distorting statements over the issue were being given and there is no clarity in the same. Even there is no clarity about the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) and Mufti Mohammed Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme.
Criticizing the Department, the BJP leaders said that there is total confusion as the officers were speaking different languages while the consumers are not getting ration for last three months and sugar is not available for months together.
Alleging total mess in Public Distribution System (PDS) the meeting decided to take up the issue with the concerned Minister and if need will seek the intervention of Union Government so that people are not harassed in getting ration.
Some BJP leaders while turning tables on the Department officers said that one officer says that ration will be given as per soul while another says it will be supplied as per card, sources said, adding that as per NFSA the wheat will be supplied to BPL families all over India but in J&K it was decided that instead of wheat flour will be given. But now neither flour nor wheat is supplied which has generated crisis.
The Party maintained it will not hesitate in taking a harsh stand on this issue as well.
The issues pertaining to water supply and electricity supply also came up for discussion in the meeting. While the satisfaction was expressed over the implementation of Deendayal Jyoti Yojna the Party was of the view that more attention needs to be paid to water supply in view of the coming Summer to lessen the problems of the people.
The meeting also reviewed the preparations for forthcoming Panchayat elections in the State and Partymen were asked to gear up for the same. The recently held Jan Samparak Yatra and its public response to it was also discussed in the meeting.
Regarding settlement of Rohingyas in Jammu, the BJP observed that it has already taken up the issue with Union Government.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, who was preoccupied with District Development Board meeting at Srinagar, could not attend the meeting while Forest Minister Ch Lal Singh was also not present.
The other Ministers from BJP who attended the meeting included Chander Parkash Ganga, Bali Bhagat, A G Kohli, Sham Choudhary, Sunil Sharma, Priya Sethi and Ajay Nanda.
