‘BJP trying to weaken RTI Act’

JAMMU, July 26: Criticizing the amendment in the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005, RTI convenor of Jammu & Kashmir Pardesh Congress Committee Advocate Bhavishya Sudan has said that fresh amendments in the act are not in the interest of transparent system in democracy which will dis-empower Central & State Information Commissions and seize their autonomous status.
In a statement , Sudan said that by giving power to Government to fix salaries and tenure of Central & State Information Commissioners, BJP wants to make RTI institution redundant and irony is all this happened without any consultation with the stake holders.
It is unfortunate that the autonomous status of the Information Commission has been sabotaged by the sitting Government just to take control in his hand. This very step is not in the interest of world’s largest democracy, he added.
