JAMMU, Mar 24: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is still undecided over the Legislative Council candidates despite the team of State leadership holding talks with senior Central leaders in Delhi today as the party was yet to sort out the issue on fielding of candidates with its alliance partner PDP.
According to party sources , the State party president, Sat Sharma, general secretary (org) Ashok Kaul and Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh who are in Delhi held talks with party national general secretary Ram Madhav and national general secretary (org) Ram Lal today but could not take a final decision on candidates for LC elections to be held on April 17.
Sources said four names were in BJP panel for two seats one for Jammu and another for Poonch respectively. However, its coalition partner has made a proposal asking BJP that it should field its one candidate from Kashmir seat while PDP will field its one candidate from Jammu seat.
So first the issue is to be sorted out between the coalition partners before finalizing the names of candidates from two Jammu seats, sources added.
Sources said the BJP leaders discussed the names of probable candidates with Central leadership and in the meeting with Ram Lal Union Minister in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh was also present.
Sources said that party leaders will again meet tomorrow to sort out the issue and in case the PDP and BJP reach an agreement by the afternoon then the names can possibly be declared by the evening otherwise it may take some days more in taking a final decision.
Sources said BJP leaders from the State are not willing to contest from Valley seat as they said that the party has a mass base in Jammu where from it won 25 Assembly seats in 2014 poll and hence it should field its candidate from this region only.
