JAMMU, Mar 18: BJP today warned the Election authorities that in case it failed to enroll the deleted and fresh voters, the party will resume its agitation as there is a lot of public resentment especially in newly created nine wards of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) where the names of majority of voters are missing in electoral rolls.
BJP Jammu Rural district president, Omi Khajuria, its general secretary, Mukesh Sharma and Women Wing National Working Committee member of the Party Sheela Handoo in a joint statement expressed their total dismay the way the JMC has started corrections in voter lists and termed it an eye wash.
The BJP demanded that either the date for making fresh enrolments in the voter lists be extended to March 30 so that all voters in these nine wards whose names are missing from voter lists get enrolled or the voter list of 2012 be taken as authentic voter lists by including the names of fresh voters in it.
Omi Khajuria while addressing the party activists meeting at Muthi said in case the authorities fail to take any decision by tomorrow the BJP activists will again come to streets and launch agitation.
Meanwhile Sheela Handoo staged a protest along with Party activists in Ward No 64 saying that large scale deletion in the nine wards of Durga Nagar, Sector 1,2 & 3, Roop Nagar, Barnai, Bantalab, Police Colony, Swaran Vihar, Muthi, Buta Nagar and other adjoining areas is a deliberate attempt on the part of the authorities at the helm of affairs.
She warned that in case the same was not corrected and voters of these localities not given justice the BJP will launch agitation. She said the issue was already taken up with Chief Electoral Officer and senior officials of Election Commission and in case the corrective measures are not taken she will be forced to take legal recourse.
She said in Ward 64 nearly 5800 out of 7700 votes have been deleted. Being the JMC corporator from 2005 to 2010 even my name does not figure in the voter list which indicates the malicious intensions of the authorities.
