LEH, Jan 31: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha Kargil of Ladakh UT delegation under the leadership of Mohd Hussain, president BJP Yuva Morcha Kargil met Lieutenant Governor of UT, Ladakh, R.K. Mathur at Kargil today.
The delegation comprised Ahmad Hussain, general secretary, Yuva Morcha, Dilawar Hussain its vice president, Mohd Yaqoob incharge Kargil Mandal, Imran Khan, BJYM president Drass.
The delegation informed the LG that no Ladakhi had ever thought that the dream of having Ladakh as a Union Territory status, University of Ladakh and Kargil Airport would ever come true or that the Zojila Tunnel would be started. Fulfillment of these demands in one stroke after another sweeping stroke only showed the intent of the Government and the sincerity towards solving issues of the people of the border areas. “We hope that the work on the Kargil Airport and the Zojila Tunnel, both of which are strategically very important, would be started with the same pace as has been done with the grant of Ladakh Union territory status”, the delegation added.
The delegation demanded Sports infrastructure should be created at every block level so that in coming days the youth of Ladakh could compete with the rest of India and represent the UT. It demanded Khre cho Sultan Stadium should be developed at National Level.
Highlighting other demands the delegation stressed on Conversion of the Cluster University of Ladakh into a full-fledged Central University, shifting of Kargil town to the Kurbathang Plateau which is presently allocated to the Indian Army, immediate starting of work on Zojila Tunnel and Kargil Airport, promotion and development of Winter tourism and Winter sports like Ice Hockey, Snow Skating etc games at world level to tackle the increase of unemployment in Kargil, Central sponsored loan scheme should be subsidized 50 percent due to short working season.
The Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, R.K. Mathur assured them to take these issues on priority basis with the Central Government.
