JAMMU, Feb 25: Continuing with their efforts to save the gullible consumers from being fleeced by the unscrupulous trade practices, team of officers of Legal Metrology conducted extensive checking in Gandhi Nagar area and booked three leading traders under the relevant provisions of the law enforced for the purpose.
Acting on a complaint, the department booked showrooms of Blackberry and Puma for overcharging from the consumers against the offered price on sale. The consumers were not getting the actual offered price on the pretext of VAT which was supposed to be the inbuilt component of reduced MRP and was to be given by the trader but in actual consumers were made to shell out of their pocket.
Both the stores were directed to only charge the price offered to the consumers failing which further legal action as required under the act will be initiated against the defaulters.
In another complaint, the department booked electrical trader at Gandhi Nagar for selling electrical appliances without adhering to the mandatory declarations like MRP on the heating appliance, date of manufacturing on the SYSKA LED lights and on other China made appliances.
According to Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller Consumer Protection, the department was continuously keeping hawk’s eye on the various promotional activities offered by the leading houses to clear their winter stocks by adopting different tactics. It was ensured that no such malpractices remain prevalent in Jammu market.
