JAMMU, Dec 6: A blast took place near Sidhra bridge on outskirts of Jammu City tonight but there were no casualties as there was no movement on bridge when the explosion occurred.
SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli told the Excelsior that sound of blast was heard from Sidhra bridge near police naka and immediately police parties swung into action.
“Entire area has been cordoned off and additional reinforcement deployed,” Kohli said.
An official statement issued late tonight by the SSP Jammu said: “Today late evening a blast like sound was heard near Sidhra bridge checking point. A thorough search is being carried on the spot to verify the matter. Any further detail shall be shared accordingly”.
Sources said the sound was deafening and it appeared to be a terror strike but things will be clear tomorrow morning when splinters of the device are collected.
A crater was caused at the site of blast, they said.
Apparent target could be the police checking party at Sidhra bridge, they added.
Investigations are on.
