Blood Bank, Laboratories being upgraded to level of GMCs in Rajouri: Principal

MRI, Cath Labs also proposed

JAMMU, May 23: Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri Principal Dr AS Bhatia today said the existing Laboratories of Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Blood Bank are being upgraded to the level of Government Medical Colleges of the Union Territory.
“The patients will not have to go to Mehra Campus for getting blood & other investigations done. It is pertinent to mention that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is very keen to upgrade the existing Diagnostic Services at GMC, Rajouri. In this direction, steps are being taken to start Blood Component lab in Blood Bank under National Health Mission Scheme whereby different components like platelets and clotting factors , which are life saving in patients suffering from bleeding disorders especially women after delivery of child and patient suffering from Dengue Fever, for which at present poor patients have to go to Jammu Hospital or to seek help from the Military Hospital Rajouri,” Dr Bhatia said.
Similarly in Microbiology laboratory, culture and sensitivity testing to detect potency of different antibiotics against different infections along with other serological test will be performed, he said.
With regard to Pathology laboratory, different coagulation tests along with Histopathology and Biopsy to detect any cancer in the tumor tissue will be done. Such expansion of laboratories needs re-allocation of space to get license from different licensing authorities to carry on these tests, Dr Bhatia said.
It is also pertinent to mention that on the instructions of Administrative Secretary, Health & Medical Education & DDC Rajouri steps has have initiated to install MRI and Cath Lab in the coming years. Regarding shifting of Blood Bank, it is once again made clear that there is no such move to shift the Blood Bank from the existing location.
Medical Superintendent, Dr Mehmood Hussain Bajar said that up gradation of the existing labs will help in providing better patient care and will reduce the referral rate to the higher medical centers.
