Blood donation camp for Thalassemia patients organized at MIET

JAMMU, Mar 8: A blood donation camp was organized at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, for Thalassemic children by Thalassemia Society of MIET (TSOM) in collaboration with J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society along with J&K Young Thalassemia Alliance.
Students and staff of the college donated blood voluntarily. Over 120 students registered for blood donation, out of which, around 102 candidates physically donated blood.
The donors were encouraged by Dr Sanjeev Dhigra, Associate Professor of Pediatrics Deptt, GMC, and J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society, represented by president Er Sudhir Sethi and Shami Kapoor, joint secretery. From the Blood Bank side, Dr Rubina Kausar, Sunita, Surinder and other paramedical staff successfully conducted the camp.
Welcoming the donors, Dr Ankur Gupta, Director MIET, said that in order to attain professional and personal success in life, students should fulfill diligently their duty towards the society for uplifting lives of thousands. Prof S K Sharma, Director MIET, ensured full support which can help save lives of thalassemic children. He inspired the students to come forward and donate blood.
The organizers of this event were Shivam Vaid, Mohit Sharma, Sabhia, Rahul Mahajan, Anam Malik, Shubham Sharma, Aayushi Mahajan and Raagav Bali, all students of MIET who are the active members of JKYTA also.
It is worthwhile mentioning that many students have been donating blood on regular basis. Bharat Bhushan, 6th semester ECE and Sahil Dhar, CSE 6th semester, had already donated blood 5 times. Abhishek Malpotra, 8th semester ECE, had donated blood 4 times in the recent years. J&K Youth Thalassemia Alliance received huge response from the students.
The camp was conducted under the direct supervision of Asstt Prof Amit Mehta and Asstt Prof Sahib Singh, the officials of NSS unit of MIET.
