JAMMU, June 14: World Blood Donor Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm by various educational, health and social institutions across Jammu and Kashmir under the theme “Give blood, give plasma, share life and share often” by organizing different events including blood donation camps, slogan writing competitions and awareness camps.
Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) commemorated World Blood Donation Day today across the Valley, with over 470 pints of blood collected throughout the Day. The major event took place at Old GB Pant Hospital Sonwar, where the blood donation camp was held by DHSK in collaboration with Badami Bagh Cantonment Medical Dispensary. It was inaugurated by Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, RR Bhatnagar, accompanied by Administrative Secretary H&ME, Bhupinder Kumar and CEO of Badami Bagh Cantonment Board, Johns Vikas.
Furthermore, blood donation camps were organized by CMOs, Medical Superintendents, and BMOs across various district and sub-district hospitals in the Kashmir valley. A total of 474 pints of blood were collected during these camps, with significant contributions from different locations: 112 pints at DH Budgam, 25 at DH Bandipora, 25 at SDH Chadoora, 50 at DH Handwara, 23 at DH Ganderbal, 34 at SDH Kupwara, 43 at DH Kulgam, 25 at DH Pulwama, 73 at JLNM Srinagar and other locations, 43 at DH Shopian, and 21 at SDH Sopore.
2nd Battalion NCC Jammu and Government SPMR College of Commerce organized a blood donation camp in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Jammu, J&K AIDS Control Society, Amar Ujala and Blood Transfusion Department of GMC Jammu at SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu. The Camp was inaugurated by Sat Pal Sharma (honorary secretary, IRCS Jammu) along with Col Shajan Thomas (Officiating Group Commander, NCC Group Jammu) and Dr Meena Sidhu (HoD Blood Transfusion, GMC Jammu). A total of 35 units of blood were collected as NCC cadets from SPMR College, GCW Gandhi Nagar and GCW Parade donated blood during the camp.
The Department of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology at SKIMS organized a blood donation camp outside the SKIMS Auditorium Hall. The Camp received overwhelming participation from various organizations and individuals. Notable NGOs, including Al Iman Youth Foundation, Awaz-o-Ehsas, Medical Aid Forum Kangan, G.R Beigh Memorial Trust, as well as the dedicated medical and paramedical staff of SKIMS, joined hands in this collective effort by generously donating blood. More than 70 units of blood were collected during the event.
NSS unit of Government College of Education, Jammu in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club organized a special awareness session on Blood Donation under the patronage of Prof Aekta Gupta, Principal. Students, teachers and non-teaching staff of the college participated in the programme.
Prof. Aekta Gupta (Principal, GCOE) made the students aware regarding the blood donation and its importance in present times. She announced that the college will take the institutional membership from the Red Cross Jammu within next few days.
On the occasion, NSS unit under the guidance of Dr Shubhra Jamwal, Program Officer organized Slogan writing competition with theme ‘GIVE BLOOD GIVE PLASMA, SAVE LIFE’. The students actively participated in the event and showed great enthusiasm.
Prof. Seema Kotwal, Prof Satish Sharma, Dr Rajinder Kour Dr. Sushma Bala, Prof Shalini Rana, Prof Radhika Mahajan Dr. Anuradha, Prof. Anuradha Choudhary, Dr Sunita Devi, Prof. Sarita Dogra, Prof. Vinay lata, Prof. Seema kumari ,Prof. Neeraj Verma, Prof Deep, Prof. Shapia Shameem, Prof Shamboo and Pardeep Bali were the teaching faculty members who participated in the session.
The NSS unit of Government College of Engineering & Technology (GCET) Jammu also organized a blood donation camp in its campus in collaboration with Department of Blood Transfusion, GMC Jammu. About 60 volunteers donated the blood during the camp which held under the patronage of Principal GCET Prof Sameru Sharma. The event was organized by NSS volunteers Rakshant Balotra, Sunidhi, Harshdeep and Dhanush under the guidance of NSS Programme Officer Dr Raman Gupta.
BSF Frontier Hospital Jammu in association with Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Bank of AIIMS Vijaypur organized an informative and motivational session highlighting the significance and paramount need of blood donation. While delivering lecture on the occasion, Dr Urvershi Kotwal and Dr Sushant Kumar Meinia emphasized that it is important to recognize the act of blood donation as an act of solidarity that saves lives and brings communities together.
Dulhasti Power Station, Kishtwar organized a blood donation camp at Project Hospital of the Power Station in association with District Hospital, Kishtwar. MK Kashyap, Group General Manager (In-Charge) of the Power Station inaugurated the camp in presence of Dr Yudhvir Singh (Medical Superintendent, DH Kishtwar). A total of 35 persons donated blood, including officers and employees of Dulhasti Power Station and Jawans of Central Industrial Security Force.
Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) Jammu celebrated “World Blood Donor Day” by organizing a blood donation camp in collaboration with Red Cross Society, Jammu District and Transfusion Department of GMC Jammu. A group of volunteers comprising scientists/staff including AD I/C of RARI Jammu and students from the Institute of Mass Communication donated blood on the occasion.
A blood donation camp was also organized by 2nd JK Girls Battalion GDC Udhampur in collaboration with Command Hospital (Northern Command) Udhampur in coordination with 2 J&K Boys Battalion and Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of the College. The Camp saw a good turnout with 30 volunteers donating blood and the rest were empanelled with the Command Blood Centre for future donation as per requirement. A slogan writing competition was also conducted.
NSS unit of GDC Samba celebrated World Blood Donor Day by organizing a slogan writing activity on the theme “Give Blood, Give Plama, Share Often” in the College campus. Around 10 students exhibited their talent in preparing slogan on the theme. Prof (Dr) Twinkle Suri, Principal of the College motivated students to come forward for the noble cause of humanity and donate blood to save the precious lives.
A blood donation camp was organized at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar by its administration in collaboration with ‘Project Sampark’ of Border Roads Organization. The Camp was inaugurated by MS of the Hospital Dr Parveen Yograj along with senior most officer of BRO, Col Dr Rajesh Manhas of Army Medical Corps. A total of 24 units of blood were donated during the camp.
An awareness programme on World Blood Donor Day was organized by NSS unit and Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College for Women Kathua under the guidance of Principal Dr Savi Behl. In his speech, she encouraged and motivated the volunteers and the students to come forward and donate blood for the noble cause of humanity.
To mark the Day, a blood donation camp was organized at Headquarters 35 Border Roads Task Force in collaboration with District Hospital Udhampur. In this camp, the employees of the Organization took part in a big way and donated their precious blood.
A blood donation camp was organized at Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital in Poonch. People from different social organizations, NCC cadets and other people voluntarily donated their blood while many volunteers registered their names to donate blood at any time during emergency. A total of 18 units of blood were donated during the camp.
