Body of drowned man recovered

JAMMU, July 2: The body of a man, who was drowned yesterday in river Tawi in Nagrota area of city outskirts, was recovered today.
According to a police official, the man identified as Balbir Kumar (40) alias Kali, son of Des Raj, resident of Abdal (RS Pura), had gone to attend the congregation of his Biradari at Baba Bhair Devta Sthan in Nagrota area.
He said that after paying obeisance at the Devsthan, Balbir at about 3 PM moved to river Tawi at Katal Batal to take a dip in the river but as he was in inebriated condition, he could not assess the depth of the river and drowned.
“A search operation was launched immediately but his body could not be located till late evening when search operation was suspended due to darkness. However, after hectic search operation today, his body was located and fished out from 500 m away from the drowning site in river Tawi at about 5 PM”, the official said.
He said that body of the deceased was shifted to mortuary room of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for postmortem to be conducted tomorrow while Nagrota police had taken cognizance of the matter.
