Body of minor fished out of Jhelum after 4 days

Srinagar, Sept 26: The dead body of a boy who had earlier drowned in river Jhelum while swimming in Boniyar area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district was fished out today after 4 days of rigorous efforts by SDRF, police.
The deceased 12-year-old boy has been identified as Shahid Ahmad son of Late Noor Mohammad Kanyal, a resident of Nowshehra, Boniyar in Uri.
The body has been fished out near NHPC Dam in Boniyar.
The police officials in the area said that after the boy drowned into the river while he was swimming along with his friends, a few locals jumped into the river and tried to rescue him, but could not.
The police said that they also reached the spot and launched a search operation to trace the boy.
Later, the police said, a joint team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police pressed in its motorboats and divers to trace the body.
“It was quite difficult as the body could not be traced until today when the body was fished out of the river near NHPC Dam Boniyar gate,” a police official said.
The police had earlier sought help from the Indian Navy’s MARCOS commandos posted at Manasbal for assistance in helping them in retrieving the body of the minor boy.
The police were assured that a team of the requested commandos would arrive on Saturday for furthering help in the rescue operation to trace out the body of the body.
