JAMMU, May 13: Believe it or not, the irresponsible and inhuman face of those at the helm has been unveiled by none else than few human bones left after cremation but were found accidently after 25 years today at the closed electrical crematorium in Jogi Gate cremation ground.
Sources informed that the bones are believed to be lying in chamber of the electrical crematorium for more than two decades.
The only electrical crematorium in J&K was closed years back when it developed some technical snag.
“Not many dead bodies were cremated at the electrical crematorium of Jogi Gate as it was mostly used for cremating unclaimed bodies,” an employee at the cremation ground informed on condition of not being named.
A worker of Sewa Samiti—an organisation which is caretaker for cremation grounds in J&K—informed that bones were always collected after the cremation was done in electrical crematorium and were stored.
“Ashes of unclaimed bodies cremated on pyre were also stored and immersed in Chenab River at Akhnoor before solar eclipse,” he maintained.
“Kuchh Chura Reh Gaya Hoga (might be some bones in powder form were left) after burning which were not cleared,” he further said when informed about the presence of human bones in the chamber of electrical crematorium.
An office bearer of Sewa Samiti who had left the organisation some years back informed that the electrical crematorium was closed for the last 25 years after it developed some technical snag.
He also said that only 20-25 cremations had taken place in the electrical crematorium.
Mayor of Jammu city, Rajinder Sharma during a surprise check at Jogi Gate—oldest cremation ground in J&K today detected some human bones in the chamber of electrical crematorium which was closed decades back.
He ordered to collect these bones and then proceeded to the store room of the cremation ground to find ashes of about 100 more unknown persons there.
The Mayor called an ambulance and collected all these ashes himself with the help of some employees of cremation ground and then sent them to Purmandal for immersion in Gupt Ganga (Devak) as per proper Hindu rituals.
The Mayor also checked the entire cremation ground and gave instructions for replacing the old taps there and removal of clothes and other such things lying scattered.
He directed for proper cleanliness at the place of performing last rites and said that the coffins for carrying the dead bodies should be made of steel rather than wood as wooden one gets easily damaged.
The Mayor gave instructions for the removal of weeds and bushes from the cremation ground.
