HIRANAGAR, June 10: A book club, ‘Bibliophiles’ was inaugurated at GLDM Degree College Hiranagar, under which a book exhibition and a book talk were organized by the College Library and the College Advisory Committee under the aegis of IQAC.
Principal of the College, Dr Pragya Khanna, in her inaugural address, said that the purpose of this venture is aggrandizement of the knowledge of the students, developing reading and comprehension skill. She said that such ventures play vital role to promote reading habits among the people.
“Books play a quintessential role in every student’s life by introducing them to a world of imagination, providing knowledge of the outside world, improving their reading, writing and speaking skills as well as boosting memory and intelligence. It is an essential and important aspect for creating the literate society in this world. It shapes the personality of an individual and it helps them to develop the proper thinking methods and creating new ideas,” she added.
About four hundred students of different streams actively participated in the event. A good number of stalls were setup by the publishers and booksellers to display their books. Komal Sharma of BA Semester IV, Vishali Manash of B Sc Semester IV and Siya of B Sc Semester IInd took part in the Book Talk.
Prof Sujat Khan, Coordinator IQAC discussed with the students the major objective of the Book Exhibition and Book Talk. Dr Arun Kumar, member Library Advisory Committee handled the proceedings of the Book Talk. Also present on the occasion were Prof Parveen Sharma, Prof Kamlesh Bala, Dr Jyoti Rani, Prof Kiran Thappa, Prof Neha Bhagat, Reetu Bhushan (Librarian), Vikram Singh PTI and Dr Mukesh Kumar. The entire event was organised by Prof Gurdayal, Convener Library Advisory Committee under the guidance and consultation of Dr Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College.
