Boost to Higher Education

Sir,
The State Government has approved the ambitious Rs 1.039 crore for State Higher Education Plan (SHEP). The money so sanctioned will surely give a great thrust to promotion of higher education in the State. The plan aims at establishing new colleges and universities in the State, besides upgrading the existing higher education in the State.
One would like to say that before creation of new colleges, it is necessary that the  existing degree colleges are upgraded by equipping them with infrastructure and providing staff. There is acute shortage of college lecturers in the State. Recently, it was reported that 1600 post of lecturers are vacant  and these have not been yet filled. One  can very well imagine the quality of teaching that is provided in these colleges which face shortage of staff.
The  colleges that have come in rural hinterland are the worst hit. Students have been complaining that they can’t get their choice-subjects in these colleges.
They have to compromise with what is taught there. These college do not have much facilities for research work as such academic work suffers terribly. The Higher Education Department should therefore  lay thrust on standard of these colleges before creating view ones.
Yours etc…
