JAMMU, Mar 31: The border tourism mela to boost tourists and promote border tourism and pilgrimage tourism, commenced with fanfare along Indo-Pak international border in Suchetgarh on city outskirts.
Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir inaugurated the mela and the Tourist Facilitation Center completed at the cost of Rs 3.50 crore to develop border tourism in the area.
The Minister paid obeisance at religious places and shrines at Octroi border out post alongwith Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma and Former Minister R S Chib.
Complete with myriad decorations, cultural programs, local food and handicraft stalls, the fair left the Suchetgarh area’s celebratory feelings soaring.
A troupe of Punjabi dancers doled out power packed performances grooving on drum beats and dholaks while the locals and large number of tourists evinced the festival and mesmerized with cultural programmes presented by reputed artists depicting rich cultural ethos of the State.
“Tourism is the backbone of States’ economy and its expansion was the priority of the Government,” Mr Mir in his address said. (AGENCIES)
