Border victims deprived of compensation: VCT

Jammu, Feb 5: In a statement issued here, Old Care Society (OCS) of Viklang Chhatra Trust (VCT) said that border victims are being deprived of due compensation and receive a curt treatment from the Government.
“Our strife-torn J&K State has unfortunately experienced intermitted aggression and Indo-Pak Wars since 1965 and sporadic incidents of undeclared weapon ‘Mine Blasts’, unprovoked heavy shelling by Pakistan Army continue to claim lives and limps of State subjects even today in routine,” the statement said.
VCT further said that on August 28, 2015, a mortar shell was fired from across the border which hit the joint house of Bhola Ram and Subhash Chander of Village Sai-Khurd, RS Pura, Jammu, adding that all the family members in the house sustained injuries and were shifted to Sub District Hospital RS Pura and Govt Medical College Jammu.
The Trust further said that Banso Devi succumbed to her injuries in SHD, RS Pura and Kanta Devi breathed her last at GMC Jammu, adding that the husbands of both the deceased ladies namely Bhola Ram and Subash Chander were maimed due to grievous injuries to be declared lifelong handicapped, besides their wards and elders suffered serious injuries.
“Despite their expenditure in lakhs on treatment at Private Hospital in Amritsar, the State Govt has paid paltry amount of Rs 1,00,000 for each deceased and Rs 5, 000 for treatment to each injured. While right leg of Subash Chander was surgically removed below knee, Bhola Ram has to undergo bone grafting,” the statement said.
The Trust said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given approval to the enhancement of victims of cross border firing from Rs 3 lakh to 11 lakh, adding that the Trust working for the welfare of disabled, appeal the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir that in accordance with the Prime Minister’s approval, the amount of compensation may be paid to these victims at an earliest.
