Excelsior Correspondent KATHUA, Dec 10: The border villagers from Marheen, Sanji Morh and adjoining areas of tehsil Hiranagar held strong protest demonstration against the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for the worst condition of border road in the area. A large number of villagers from this border belt assembled at Marheen town today and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the BRO/ GREF and the Chief Engineer Project Sampark. These villagers alleged that BRO was entrusted the task to upgrade this border road about four years back but in view of very slow pace of work and abandoning of work at several places, the condition of road has gone from bad to worse. They further alleged that there was no monitoring on the progress of work by the Chief Engineer Sampark or other officers. There seems to be no accountability of the BRO or the State Administration and the public has been left to suffer. Even the district administration has no liaison with the Central agency on the progress of the work. They warned the Chief Engineer Sampark to conduct his `Gherao’ and stage massive protest in his Jammu office if the BRO failed to take cognizance of the matter. These border villagers sought the immediate intervention of DC Kathua and the Divisional Commissioner Jammu into the matter and demanded that road upgradation work be taken up at the war footing and sufficient men and machiney be deployed on this important border road.
