Border villagers protest, raise slogans against PDD

SAMBA, July 11: Irate people of border villages of Mawa, Chilyari, Madwal, Palura, Chachwal, Mangu Chak of Samba district staged a dharna at Rajpura Power House today and raised slogans against the Power Development Department (PDD).
Social worker Nitish Sharma was leading the protest. Highlighting the demands, he accused the higher officials of the Department of treating the area step-motherly. He said that due to unscheduled power cuts and low voltage in this Summer season, people are facing a lot of trouble due to which the farmers are very upset because the agriculture season is on peak and the water in the fields has completely dried up.
Nitish Kumar, while talking to the reporters said that for the last several years, the area is facing many problems due to electricity in the Summer season and many times people have informed the officials of the PDD but apart from the assurances the Department has been watching as a silent spectator for the last several months.
Tarun Singh, Sumit Sharma, Rudan Sharma, Sachin Jankar Chaudhary, Sarpanch Rajpura, Suresh Basotra, Sanjay Singh, Ranjit Singh were among others who took part in the protest.
