Jammu, Feb 28: Both Houses of State Legislative today paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister, Inder Kumar Gujral, former Minister, Abdul Aziz Zargar and former legislators Ghulam Nabi Wani, Dhan Raj Bhargotra, Dhain Singh Khahotra, Syeda Sugra Salma Samnani on the first day of the session.
Deputy Speaker Mohammad Sartaj Madni moved the obituary references in Legislative Assembly. He threw light on the lives and contribution of late leaders in the society.
While paying rich tributes to late leaders, he said that these leader throughout their life served the people of their respective areas till their last breath.
Speaking on obituary reference Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah referred the contribution of these leaders and said that people will always remember them for their good work towards the betterment of society.
Omar Abdullah said that late I. K. Gujral came to India after partition and joined politics. “Gujral was appointed Ambassador of India in Moscow and served the people within and outside the country in various capacities and rose to the position of Prime Minister of India”, Omar Abdullah said.
He referred to the Gujral Doctrine which lays stress on good relations between neighbours. He said Gujral Doctrine has remained food for thought for the think tankers and experts of foreign affairs and its relevance is universal and without any time limit.
Omar Abdullah also referred to the contribution of late I. K. Gujral to Urdu literature and said that he has written six books in Urdu including poetry.
Omar Abdullah paid tributes to late Abdul Aziz Zargar and late Ghulam Nabi Wani (Budgami) and mentioned their role as the Members of State Constituent Assembly. “They were involved in drafting the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and the Special Status of relations between Jammu and Kashmir and the Country”, he added.
The Chief Minister also remembered late Dhan Raj Bhargotra and late Dhian Singh Kalhotra and said that these leaders have made their mark in political arena working for the welfare of society and the constituencies they represented in the Legislative Assembly.
Paying tributes to late Syeda Sugra Salma Samnani, Omar Abdullah referred to her struggle for upliftment of women and mentioned her role as journalist, adding that she was editor and publisher of Daily Urdu Sandesh and contributed to the society in this capacity also.
Minister of State for Cooperatives, Dr. Manohar Lal, Legislators Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Jugal Kishore, Ashok Khajuria, Harshdev Singh, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Hakeem Mohammad Yasin and Mohammad Sharief Naiz also paid rich tributes to late leaders and highlighted their contribution to the nation and State in different capacities. They said all legislators should follow their footsteps and work for the betterment of the people.
Later 2-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to these leaders and House adopted the motion.
In Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra today moved obituary references to pay tributes to former Prime Minister of India Inder Kumar Gujral, former State Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar, former legislators Dhan Raj Bhargotra, Ghulam Nabi Wani, Dhian Singh Kalhotra and Saida Samnani.
While endorsing the views expressed by the members on the obituary reference, Mr. Malhotra highlighted the role of deceased political leaders and said that their contribution for the development of the country and the State, besides their efforts for the welfare of the people will always be remembered.
Those who spoke on the obituary reference included Minister for Planning and Development Ajay Sadhotra, legislators Bashir Ahmad Magray, Vijay Bakaya, Devender Singh Rana, Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy, B. R. Kundal, Ajat Shatru Singh, Syed Rafiq Shah, R. S. Chib and Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri.
Later, the House also observed two minute silence to pay homage to the departed souls.
