Bovine smuggling: 333 FIRs filed in Jammu rural zone in 2024

JAMMU, Dec 31: The Jammu and Kashmir Police in Jammu rural zone have filed a total of 333 FIRs against the bovine smugglers, with 3014 cattle successfully rescued from their clutches in the year 2024.
Additionally, 309 vehicles were seized for their role in the smuggling operations and 352 individuals were arrested in connection with these activities.
As part of its tough approach, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Jammu rural zone have also filed eight cases under the Public Safety Act (PSA) against repeat offenders, a move aimed at curbing habitual violations.
The police also managed to recover Rs 8, 32, 752 from the accused through court orders, covering the cost and care of the rescued animals.
The police have taken further action by opening history sheets and personal files for notorious smugglers and are in the process of cancelling the registration certificates, route permits, and licenses of vehicles that have been repeatedly used in smuggling.
To further strengthen enforcement efforts, a comprehensive database of offenders has been created.
Across the entire Jammu district, Operation Kamdhenu saw 374 FIRs registered, 3,252 animals rescued and 349 vehicles seized, while 407 individuals were arrested.
SP Rural Jammu, Brijesh Sharma, praised the efforts of the police, saying, “Under the guidance of SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, we remain committed to protecting public sentiments and Animal Rights. Our strict measures are focused on dismantling the bovine mafia and eradicating this illegal activity from the region.”
The Jammu Police have further vowed to continue their efforts with full force, ensuring the safety of animals and addressing public concerns about bovine smuggling.
