Bovine smuggling bid foiled

JAMMU, July 25: Police here in Akhnoor area claimed that they have foiled a bovine smuggling bid by rescuing 21 animals crammed inside a container.
A police spokesperson said that on the intervening nights of Monday-Tuesday, a party of Polcie Station Akhnoor led by SHO Akhnoor Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Lal Sharma intercepted a container at Khugga Naka.
He said when the police party signalled the driver of the container for checking, he tried to escape. He was chased to find the vehicle lying on the road with driver fled from the spot.
During checking of the vehicle, the police spokesperson said that 21 animals crammed inside the vehicle were rescued.
Police have registered a case FIR number 213/2023 under sections 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act, and 50/52/54/56 of the Transport of Animals Rules 1978 against the unidentified accused and started further investigation.
