Bovine smuggling bid foiled

JAMMU, Aug 10: With the arrest of an individual, Police in Akhnoor area claimed that they have foiled a bovine smuggling bid and rescued several animals.
A police spokesperson said that a team of Akhnoor Police Station led by SHO Akhnoor, Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Sharma, intercepted a TaTa 407 vehicle at Gandharwan.
The driver of the vehicle was asked to stop but he tried to escape on seeing the police party. He was, however, apprehended by the alert jawans, said the police spokesperson.
During search of the vehicle, he said, 5 animals, including three cows and two calves were found crammed in the vehicle without fodder and water.
According, the police spokesperson said that the animals were rescued and the accused identified as Pavneet Singh of Chattha, Jammu, was arrested on-the-spot.
He has been booked in case FIR number 228/2023 under sections 279/188 IPC, 11 PCA Act and 50, 52, 54, and 56 Transport of Animals Rules 1978 registered at Police Station Akhnoor and further investigation taken up.
