SAMBA, Oct 24: In a continued effort to combat bovine smuggling, Ghagwal Police thwarted an illegal cattle transportation attempt and rescued eight bovines in the process.
A police team, led by the SHO of Police Station Ghagwal, was conducting routine vehicle checks at NHW Naka Tapyal when they intercepted a truck (registration number UK17CA-6084) coming from the Kathua side. Upon inspection, the team discovered eight bovines tightly bound and being transported without valid documentation.
The cattle have since been moved to a safe location. A case has been registered under FIR Number 143/2024, under Section 223 of the Bovine and Slaughter Act and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at Police Station Ghagwal. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
