JAMMU, May 3: Police foiled bovines smuggling bids by rescuing 117 cattle and arresting five persons.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Nagrota Police Station led by SHO Inspector Deepak Pathania and assisted by Incharge Police Post Sidhra SI Parvaiz Ahmed Khanday laid a naka and intercepted 9 vehicles bearing registration numbers JK19-3519, JK14B-1605, JK02AL-0964, JK19-4655, JK02AH-3375, JK03H-2314, JK02BN-1461, JK02BR-3046 and JK14D-6847.
During checking, police team rescued 90 bovine animals from the vehicles and arrested four persons, who have been identified as Mohammad Amin Mir, son of Mohammad Ramzan Mir of Zehal Banihal, Kabir Mohammad, son of Nek Mohammad of Darsoo Udhampur, Mohammad Imran, son of Gul Mohammad of Banpura Qazigund and Ayaz Ahmed, son of Shams Din of Magarkote Ramsoo, District Ramban.
Meanwhile, a team from Vijaypur Police Station led by SHO Inspector Rakesh Bamba under the supervision of Baljeet Singh, SDPO Vijaypur laid a naka at Jakh and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02AK-6979.
On frisking, police team rescued 16 bovine animals from the vehicles and seized it, while the accused managed to escape from the spot by taking benefit of the darkness.
In another similar incident, a team from Jhajjar Kotli Police Station led by SHO Inspector Shoket Hussain laid a naka and intercepted a truck.
During checking, police team rescued 11 bovine animals from the vehicle and arrested one person, who has been identified as Yasir Ahmed, son of Mohammad Zubair of Manzmoh Qazigund.
Cases under relevant sections have been registered at Jhajjar Kotli Police Station and investigation started.
