Bovines smuggling bids foiled; 118 cattle rescued, 10 arrested

JAMMU, June 6: Police foiled bovines smuggling bids by rescuing 118 cattle and arresting ten persons.
As per police sources, a team from Police Station Nagrota led by SHO Inspector Mohammad Shoket under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Parupkar Singh laid check points at different locations and intercepted three vehicles bearing registration number JK02AD-2747, JK02CQ-0410 and JK02AC-6539.
During checking, police team rescued 26 bovine animals from the vehicles and arrested three persons, who were identified as Mohammad Rafi, son of Ghulam Rasool of District Reasi, Mohammad Altaf, son of Bashir Ahmed of District Shopian and Darabara Singh, son of Jung Surjit Singh of Khawaja Bagh District Baramullah.
Cases under FIR Numbers 242/2021, 243/2021 and 244/2021 under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Station Nagrota and investigation started.
Meanwhile, foiling four separate attempts of bovine smuggling in twin districts of Reasi and Udhampur, Police rescued 56 bovines besides arresting seven smugglers.
Acting on specific information about smuggling of bovines in Gulabgarh area of Reasi, police team of Police Station Mahore tracked hills for more than 2 hours and intercepted the smugglers at Arital area of Gulabgarh.
Police arrested the accused and rescued 26 bovine animals that were being smuggled to Kulgam in Kashmir. The arrested smugglers were identified as Shah Mohd son of Abdul Qayoom of Channa Chassana and Abdul Rashid son of Mohd Anwar of Neoch.
Police Station Mahore foiled another attempt of bovine smuggling and arrested one notorious bovines smuggler Fayaz son of Ghulam Qadir Lone, resident of Danva, district Kulgam. He was arrested from Lower Ramunda hill top and five bovines were rescued from his possession.
On preliminary enquiry, it has been found that one-to-two bovines are carried from different areas and then collected at single point in jungles from where they are smuggled across valley on foot, through mountain-passes of majestic Pir Panchal ranges.
Meanwhile, two major attempts of bovine smuggling were foiled in Udhampur also where four smugglers were arrested and 25 animals were rescued.
Reports said that a Police team, headed by SHO Udhampur Chaman Gorkha, under the supervision of DySP Hqrs, Sahil Mahajan, intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02BG 4895 at Naka Point Jakhani.
During search, 12 bovine animals were found loaded in the truck without any valid permission. All the 12 bovine animals were rescued and driver of the truck, namely Farooq Ahmed, son of Din Mohd of Lower Munda Anantnag was arrested on the spot.
In another success, Police party of PP Tikri, led by SHO PS Rehambal and assisted by IC PP Tikri, Inspector Jaswinder Singh, intercepted one truck bearing registration number JK03B 3738 at Tikri Naka Point, Tikri, Udhampur. During search, 13 bovine animals were found loaded in the truck.
All the 13 animals were rescued and bovine smugglers namely Shafqat Ali son of Nurat Ali of Kokernag, Yasir, son of Liaqat Ali of Kokernag and Gafoor son of Bashir Ahmed of Kokernag were arrested on the spot.
However, a team from Police Station Batote led by SHO Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao laid a naka and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02AT-0665.
During checking, police team rescued 36 bovine animals from the vehicle.
A case under FIR Number 62/2021 under Sections 188 IPC and 11 PCA has been registered at Police Station Batote, and investigation started.
