Boy killed, 28 injured as SRTC bus falls into nullah

KATHUA, Oct 31: An 11 year old boy was killed while 28 passengers including the driver and conductor were injured when an SRTC bus bearing number JK02 Y 597 which was on its way to Jammu from Delhi via Billawar fell into Paido nullah near Mahanpur in Basholi tehsil of Kathua district this morning after the driver lost control on steering.
The child has been identified as Rahul Singh, son of Surinder Singh a resident of Mahanpur area.
According to reports there were 29 passengers in the bus and when it reached on Paido nullah bridge, the  driver lost control over steering as the bus was in high speed and it fell down from the bridge into the nullah resulting into the on spot death of the boy and injuries to others.
Out of 28 injured persons the driver and conductor whose condition was stated to be serious were shifted to GMC Jammu while 10 passengers were taken to District Hospital Kathua and rest with minor injuries were given first aid in Basholi and Mahanpur hospitals.
The driver has been identified as Darminder Singh of Jammu and the conductor as Dilbagh Singh.
The Basholi Police has registered a case. Soon after the accident the Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Jitender Singh, SSP Kathua Mohan Lal and other senior civil and police officers besides  the local people rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to hospitals.
Out of 10 passengers admitted in DH Kathua three were discharged in the evening.
In another accident in the Kathua today three motor cyclists were injured after their bike collided with a wall in PWD Colony in the town.
They were identified as Abhisheikh S/o Vijay Kumar, Shivam S/o Ajay Kumar and Aftab S/o Barkat Ali of Kathua town.
As per reports the motorcyclists who were on their way from DPL to PWD Colony Kathua were in high speed performing stunts on the road and the youth driving the bike lost control and it hit a nearby wall resulting in the injury to trio.
All of them were hospitalized in DH Kathua where their condition is stated to be out of danger. Kathua police ahs registered a case in this regard.
