BPL MLAs!

SRINAGAR, June 9: Gover-nment today placed under suspension several Revenue Department officials and ordered an inquiry after names of two MLAs had figured in the list of Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries.
Revenue Minister Basharat Bukhari informed the Legislative Assembly that the Tehsildar of Khour area and all the members of BPL committee have been placed under suspension after it surfaced that local MLA Krishan Bhagat had been placed in the list of beneficiaries.
“The Deputy Commissioner concerned has been directed to submit a report on the matter within seven days,” Bukhari said.
The Minister said Bhagat had written a letter to CAPD Minister Zulfkar Ali informing him about the irregularity committed by the officials by including him in the BPL list.
As the Minister was speaking, Independent MLA from Langate Sheikh Abdul Rasheed informed the House that his name had also figured in the BPL category of beneficiaries. “I have already written to Deputy Commissioner Kupwara in this regard and requested that my name be removed from the BPL list,” he said.
Bukhari while saying that all officers should remain alert, ordered placing the Tehsildar of Langate also under suspension.
Massive irregularities have surfaced in the list of ration beneficiaries, which is verified by Revenue department, since the implementation of the National Food Security Act in the State earlier this year.
”Message should go from this House that any body found indulging in any wrongdoing at ground level won’t be tolerated,” the Minister said adding that it was a continuous process of Government to rectify any misdeeds.
On the occasion, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Choudhry Zulfkar Ali announced suspension of concerned employees who are responsible for the error in the list.
Speaker, Kavinder Gupta today directed the Government to establish Grievance Redressal Camps in the areas where there are complaints of irregularities in Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration lists.
Instructions in this regard were given by the Speaker in the House after the issue was raised by some legislators.
An official statement said here that on the instructions of Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Ministers, Basharat Bukhari and Minister  for Consumer Affairs, Public Distribution Department Zulfkar Ali, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal has issued orders  suspending Tehsildar Khour, Block Development Officer Khour and Tehsil Supply Officer of CAPD Department Khour in response to complaints of lapses in framing  lists of beneficiaries under NFSA.
NC MLA Akbar Lone said that it is a question mark on the credibility of the functioning of the government.
Congress MLA Rigzin Jora said that credibility of the BPL committee is at stake. “What is BPL committee doing?”, he asked.
