SRINAGAR, June 7: J&K RTI Movement has demanded Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) probe against officials of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) for selling ration subsidized ration to poor people at exorbitant rates under BPL quota.
In a handout, RTI Movement Chairman, Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat claimed that FCS&CA officials in many villages of Budgam and other districts were selling ration to BPL ration card holder on APL rates for the last 4 to 5 years without informing poor consumers that they were under BPL/PHH category.
“We have exposed a scam with proof which proves that fake APL ration cards were provided to BPL consumers. Our activists obtained much information to prove that almost 30 families in Loolipora village of Chadoora sub division only were entitled to get subsidized rice under BPL/PHH quota as their name is uploaded on the Government food portal under BPL and PHH,” he said.
“But officials of FCS&CA especially store keepers and some others have provided fake ration cards with APL marking to these poor people,” Bhat claimed adding that for the last 4 years each BPL person in the village has paid Rs 40,000 to Rs 45,000 more.
“This means in only a single village officials of FCS&CA have embezzled Rs 12 to 13 lakh. Imagine how much this would be in 5000 J&K villages, cities and towns where people have similar complaints,” he maintained.
“We brought the matter into the notice of Secretary FCS&CA who assured to take action and a team headed by Joint Director would be probing the issue,” said Dr Bhat.
