JAMMU, Nov 3: Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha (DBPS) today paid rich tribute to the war hero Major Som Nath Sharma who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport from the attack of Tribals in collaboration with Pak Army on November 3, 1947.
President of the Sabha, Ved Parkash Sharma and others paid floral tribute to Shaheed Major Som Nath at a function held in the Sabha premises, Parade Ground Jammu where speakers recalled sacrifices of this great soldier.
While speaking on the occasion, V P Sharma said remembering martyrs like Major Som Nath Sharma is itself a matter of pride for the nation. He said after the martyrdom of Major Sharma, almost his entire family joined Indian Army, thereby setting an example that the sacrifices of one member from family cannot demoralize others.
While paying tribute to Major Som Nath Sharma, Tawi Andolan president and senior BJP leader Chander Mohan Sharma said that present situation in the State demands that the people should take inspiration from the supreme sacrifices of the brave soldiers and stand by Army and Para-military forces to give a befitting replay to Pakistan for its acts of cease fire violation and firing on border. Sharma also demanded naming any one of the airports in J&K on Major Som Nath Sharma.
Describing Maj Sharma as the great hero of India, former Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof R D Sharma, former Dy Mayor JMC Purnima Sharma, Ex DC B S Jamwal, Advocate PC Sharma, former JMC Commissioner Soujanya Sharma and DBPS Hiranagar unit President Ram Paul Sharma said that the real tribute to Major Som Nath Sharma will be to take pledge to keep our self always prepared to face challenges which pose threat to the unity and integrity of the motherland.
Sabha vice president Virendar Mohan Magotra, Satyanand Sharma, Jagan Nath Sharma, Subash Shastri, president NMC, Nanak Chand Sharma, ML Sharma, Ramesh Sharma, Shiv Ram Sharma, Pt Barita Ram Sharma, M L Padha, Gurdas Sharma, S S Baru, Prem Balotra, Shanker Dutt, Sunil Sharma, Raman Sharma, Sham Mishra, Rajesh Badgotra, Ritiz Khajuria, Devinder Sharma (Baboo), K L Sharma and others also paid rich tribute to Major Som Nath Sharma.
Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan (SKJAVS) Trust organized a program at Karwanda (Bhalwal) in Jammu North Constituency, in the memory of first Param Vir Chakra awardee Major Somnath Sharma, on his 76th Martyrdom Day.
On the occasion, Trustee secretary Rakesh Gandotra highlighted how Major Somnath Sharma laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport from the attack of Tribals and Pak Army on November 3, 1947.
Speaking at the programme, Mahant Rohit Shastri appealed Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to pay homage to the great personality by rechristening Kashmir Airport on the name of Major Somnath Sharma and providing a suitable place to install statue of the martyr in the City of Temples.
Sheetal Gandotra, Pandit Dev Dutt Shastri and Trust members were also present on the occasion.
